The R8 V8's factory exhaust manifolds restrict flow from each bank of the naturally aspirated 4.2 FSI before it reaches the catalytic converters. This stainless steel manifold replacement improves flow geometry from the cylinder head — reducing backpressure and supporting a sharper response through the rev range.
A naturally aspirated V8 has no boost to compensate for a restrictive manifold — every bit of exhaust scavenging lost at the cylinder head is lost for good. Fixing the very first bottleneck in the exhaust path matters more on this engine than it would on anything turbocharged.
